Instructional objectives

Students should be able to:

  • Identify modes of nutrition in the various taxa
  • Identify modes of reproduction in the various taxa
  • Identify criteria for classification
  • Give the scientific names of a few species
  • Understand the evolutionary basis of modern taxonomy

Teaching Process

  • Since this a very detail heavy chapter, with a lot of technical terms, emphasis will be on having a simple scheme to remember the details.
  • Having some quiz / games based on taxonomy in every class will help in familiarizing with terms.
  • Quiz could include finding all species that match some particular criterion.

  • Assignments based on some new species being found with certain characteristics. Where would you place it in the taxonomical hierarchy
