Instructional objectives

* To classify the given substances into acids, bases and neutral using indicators.
* To understand the properties of acids, bases and neutral solutions and indicators.

Teaching process

* Discuss about the necessity of classifying objects into different groups
* The chapter is about once such type of classification where chemicals are classified into acids, bases and neutral and the basis of classification. (where you introduce the indicators.)
* Conducting tests using indicators and classify the samples.
* Ending by discussing the uses of acids, bases and salts.

Activities

* Studying colour change of litmus paper in lemon juice and other liquids.
* Using red cabbage juice as an indicator to test acidic and basic solutions.
* Conducting neutralisation reaction between hydrochloric acid and sodium hydroxide.

References and suggested reading

Special modification

* Simple worksheets
* Familiarizing with new terms by making a list and ask students to write a note about it.
* Sit with the student once a week and help him/her to write answers to the questions given in the textbook/ worksheets.

Assignment and evaluation

* Project presentation by each student/group on a self chosen topic/experiment
* Answering worksheets/ textbook questions.
* Conducting written test/quiz.
